In vocational training, there are two main levels of training and diplomas associated with them:
1. DVS (Diploma of Vocational Studies):
The first level offers a complete professional training in a particular field of study which allows the graduate student to quickly access the labor market. The length of a DVS varies from 6 to 18 months. A student who has successfully completed a DVS program can also choose to pursue studies in an AVS or Cégep program if he/she meets has the necessary pre-requisites.
2. AVS (Attestation of Vocational Specialization):
Usually shorter in time than the DVS (3 to 8 months), this second level of training opens doors to a specialization allowing a student to deepen his knowledge in a given trade and, at the same time, meets particular demands in the related work field. The DVS is usually a prerequisite to register in an AVS.
